Photography by Keel is proud to be one of the only studios in the Detroit metro area to offer the optional services of a dedicated lighting technician. We do so because we understand that the best photography is achieved only through the careful control of light and that sometimes we need additional help to get that done. The role of the lighting technician versus that of a general photographer’s assistant is significant. A lighting technician is typically a college student who is studying photography or graphic arts and is working with us to learn the art of wedding photography. All of our technicians have earned the right to work with us because of a demonstrated foundational knowledge of the qualities and attributes of light and its impact in art. We then teach the technicians the particular tools of our trade and our workflow before allowing them to work at your wedding. A lighting technician will typically be on staff for about two years, and the knowledge and skill that he brings to your wedding is easily worth the relatively small investment it takes to bring him there.
